Knowledge Indicators – The competent teacher:
C. knows how to implement effective differentiated instruction through the use of a wide variety of materials, technologies, and resources;
When giving lesson instruction it is very important for an educator to "know how to implement effective differentiated instruction through the use of a wide variety of materials, technologies, and resources" in their classroom.This Voice Thread shows the different viewpoints of the Scopes Trials, an important court case regarding the teaching of evolution, and can help students learn to think critically about their own decisions, the decisions of others and about other events in history. I like VoiceThread.com because it is a resource that can be used as an alternative to a lecture or video, but that is engaging and informative for students. VoiceThread.com is a technology that has helped me to differentiate instruction for a lesson on the Scopes Trials. It allows me to show students different perspectives in history and get students involved in the process. Being able to differentiate lessons such as the Scopes Trials, which can be confusing and very controversial helps to keep the discussion productive and informative and being able to effectively use technology and resources to communicate information shows growth as a Social Science teacher.

Performance Indicators- The Competent Teacher:
D. develops a variety of clear, accurate presentations and representations of concepts, using alternative explanations to assist students’ understanding and presenting diverse perspectives to encourage critical and creative thinking;
This artifact is a Greek Mythology Social Networking Poster where students are instructed to use research and their knowledge of a god or goddess in Ancient Greek mythology and create a poster that looks like a social networking page such as Facebook. Students need to mingle facts and what they imagine the gods' or goddesses' social networking page would look like. This is a way that I have used to show how I can develop a clear, accurate presentation and representation of a concept, while creating an alternative way to teach them the concept of Greek mythology. It also helps them begin to think in the perspective of a god or goddesses and then to creatively show their knowledge and analytical skills. This helps demonstrate my growth because it shows that I am able to guide students in critical and independent thinking and then allowing them to express their knowledge in a creative fashion.
