Performance Indicators – The competent teacher:
E. uses effective co-planning and co-teaching techniques to deliver instruction to each student;
This is a lesson plan on Movies in the Great Depression written by myself and two of my colleagues that addresses Standard Eight, Collaborative Relationships. In this lesson plan we collaborated on the content of each topic taught and then we co-taught the lesson. This process enabled us to master the information that we were teaching and teach the content more thoroughly to our students. This is a really interesting lesson plan that helped me as an educator to learn to work more effectively with my colleagues to develop lessons where each of us could address a topic from the lesson that we were interested in and researched so that we could better teach the content. Getting together to bounce ideas off of each other, finding out the strengths of each other and compiling the skills and information that we all had compiled was a very valuable process. It helped me as an educator to relinquish some control over the lesson and showed me that co-teaching and co-planning is a valuable process that produces a creative and effective lesson plan. We also were able to involve more perspectives in the lesson because there were three of us planning instead of just one and gave us a variety of skills to work with to develop an engaging lesson. This has helped me grow as an educator because it showed me how co-teaching and co-planning works, and showed me that my colleagues and I can come up with something that can engage more students because of the variety of skills and perspectives in our group.
